A court has ordered a manager at an entertainment joint in Kakamega to supply DCI with CCTV footage as investigations into the murder of a university student is intensified.

Kakamega Chief Magistrate Bildad Ochieng’ on Friday directed the manager of Club 37 Lounge where the student was last seen on February 7 to surrender the footage.

This is after Police Corporal Samuel Kamiti told the court that the fourth year student at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) was at the joint till late in the night in the company of other students.

They had just sat their end of semester examinations.

Clement Omollo’s body was recovered in the morning of February 8 along Kakamega-Webuye Road.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (IT) student is believed to have been murdered by a boda boda rider after they disagreed on the mode of payment.

Benson Avina Eredi who is said to have carried the deceased on his motorbike wanted to be paid in cash while Omollo wanted to pay after they arrived in his house at Kolomatangi Estate, Lurambi sub-county.

An altercation ensued where Avina is reported to have attacked the deceased during the 1am incident leading to his untimely death.

He has since been charged with murder, a charge he denied before High Court Judge Jesse Njagi and was granted Sh500, 000 bond with a surety of similar amount awaiting the hearing on May 27.

“We believe the CCTV footage which covers both the inner and outer part of the club shall be of great help in our investigations. The boda boda rider is the last person who was last seen with the deceased while he was alive thus we need the footage to ascertain if he was at the scene of crime,” said Corporal Kamiti in his affidavit.

The Magistrate ordered the Manager to avail the footage for February 7 and 8.

The matter shall be mentioned on May 11 to confirm compliance.
