Revelations of students‘ bullying at Alliance High School should not shock or annoy us. We saw it coming but as the proverbial ostrich buried our heads in the sand.

Parents and government are to blame for the behaviour of students. What is the teacher at Alliance supposed to do when a Form One student reports a bullying case? S/he is not allowed to punish the students. The position of a teacher in Kenya today has been reduced to the lowest level. Some parents demean teachers and their children have taken after them. How then do we expect this “low class servants“ to discipline “royalty.“
