Singer issues apology to Cardi B for branding her 'shameless' and 'desperate'

CeeLo Green has apologized to Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Nicki Minaj after slamming their X-rated music. In a recent interview with Far Out magazine, the 45-year-old singer said there should be "a time and a place for adult content" in music videos and labelled their new single WAP as 'shameless'. CeeLo questioned whether the trio of female rappers should be considered as role models due to the 'shameless' content of their music.

After receiving a wave of backlash from the female rappers loyal fanbase, the Crazy hit-maker took to Instagram to share his side of the story. On Wednesday, CeeLo issued a public apology to the empowering trio to address the controversy and to make amends. The singer insisted that there was a 'misunderstanding' about his comments and claimed that he was a huge fan of Cardi, Megan and Nicki. The lengthy Instagram post began: "I'm an advocate of artistic freedom and expression as well as a fan of Nicki, Cardi and Megan.

"I know most of them personally and consider Cardi & Offset family. Therefore, I would never disrespect them by any means. I acknowledge them all as powerful, beautiful and influential women...and professionals."

CeeLo signed off his apologetic post by saying" "I wholeheartedly apologise".

During the controversial interview, the F*** You hitmaker slammed the trio for their sexual expression and went as far as to call them desperate. CeeLo explained: "It’s problematic, we suffer from it because there are those that have nothing to do with it, but it is assumed of everyone. You have the ‘Heads of State,’ like Nicki Minaj or someone who is up there in accolade: success, visibility, a platform to influence. Nicki could be effective in so many other constructive ways, but it feels desperate.

"Attention is also a drug and competition is around…Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, they are all more or less doing similar salacious gesturing to kinda get into position. I get it, the independent woman and being in control, the divine femininity and sexual expression. I get it all, (but) it comes at what cost?'".

While Cardi B or Nicki have yet to respond to the apology, Megan Thee Stallion laughed off CeeLo's remarks on Twitter. She pointed out hypocrisy around attitudes towards male and female rappers in terms of their use of sexually explicit lyrics and content.
