Champions Kisumu All Stars and top players feted during County Basketball League gala

The 2019 Kisumu County Basketball League (KCBL) champions Kisumu All Stars were feted during the leagues's award hosted at the Jomo Kenyatta Sportsground in Kisumu.

All Stars were crowned champions during the fifth edition of the KCBL after edging out Maseno Dukes 3-1 in the finals played in the best of five series format.

Speaking during thee awards, All Stars captain Dan Otieno said they are ready and prepared to defend their title when the 2020 season kicks off later.

"It was a great year for us especially after ending our losing streak in the finals by winning the 2019 edition. We celebrate now but with an eye on defending our title this year," he said.

Busia Raptors coach Christine Wabala was voted the KCBL Coach of the Year.

In her speech, Wabala who is the only female coach in the league, called upon more female coaches to take charge of teams to bring equity and gender balance

"We need more women in the game. Not only in the women leagues but also in the men's league. Nothing is impossible and therefore teams should also encourage and give opportunity to female coaches," she said.

Trevor Gari of Kisumu All Stars was voted the leagues's Most Valuable Player as 14-year-old Dennis Ochieng of Titans won the Most Promising Player award.
