Kenya ferry breaks silence over viral video of varsity bus near tragedy

The Kenya Ferry Services has broken the silence over a clip doing rounds on social media of a Kenyatta University bus unable to ascend the channel’s ramp after disembarking from a ferry.

In a statement seen on their social media platforms, KFS said that the bus failed to gain uphill momentum.

“Our attention has been brought to a video clip circulating on social media platform depicting a Kenyatta University bus which failed to climb the ramp,” read the statement.

Some reports online indicated that there were passengers on board when the incident happened contrary to their safety rule that requires passengers to alight from their vehicles when crossing the channel.

KFS, however, refuted the claims affirming that there were no passengers on the bus.

“The bus had no passengers since all passengers had alighted before boarding the ferry in compliance with our safety procedure,” the statement continued.

KFS’ staff stepped in and helped to pull the bus to a safer ground.

Yesterday’s incident happened barely a month after the tragic accident in which Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda drowned.

Their car plunged into the ocean ad their bodies were retrieved 13 days later thanks to a combined effort of the Kenya Navy and South African divers.

On October 16, President Uhuru Kenyatta dissolved the KFS board headed by Dan Mwanzo and four other members following the car tragedy.
