Woman in hospital after being gang raped by group posing as census officials

A 48-year-old woman is nursing injuries at the Homa Bay County Referral hospital after being allegedly raped by a gang of men.

The woman was raped inside her house in Rang’wa Location, Suba Sub County on Saturday night when census officials were enumerating residents of the area.

According to area residents, the suspects took advantage masquerading as population census officials so that the woman could open the door for them.

She then declined to open after suspecting that they were not census officials. This prompted the suspects to break the door to gain access into her house.

They grabbed her and got hold of her neck, preventing her from raising an alarm.

The gang then began raping her one after the other.

They later searched her house, stole her mobile phone and Sh2000 cash money.

The suspects disappeared and left the woman reeling in pain.

She was later rescued by village mates who took her to Suba Sub County hospital, and transferred to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.

Suba Sub County Police Commander Richard Cheruiyot said they had arrested three linked to the incident.

Cheruiyot said they were detaining the suspects at Magunga Police Station as further investigations continue.

“We cannot let suspects who have committed the heinous act go without legal action. They will be arraigned in court to face charges,” said Cheruiyot.

“Let residents desist from violating rights of others lest they will suffer punitive legal measures,” the police boss added.
