R. Kelly fails to show up in court because he can't read papers informing him about court date

R&B superstar R. Kelly lost an underage sex assault lawsuit after he failed to appear for his court hearing because he could not read, his lawyers said.

The woman, who accused Kelly of repeatedly having sex with her when she was 16 years old, filed the case in Chicago in February, a day before Kelly was arrested on 10 charges of sexual abuse.

According to TMZ, R. Kelly’s lawyers, claim that although he was served with papers informing him about the court date, the singer didn’t know what the case was about because “he suffers from a learning disability that adversely affects his ability to read,” which meant, they added, “in essence he cannot.”

The victims automatically won the lawsuit because of Kelly’s absence and now, his lawyers were asking for that ruling to be dismissed so he can properly defend himself.

The lawsuit said Kelly first met the woman when she was 16 years old and initiated a sexual relationship that lasted for more than a year.

Prosecutors say Kelly sexually assaulted three teenage girls as well as a woman. Kelly, who has faced similar allegations for decades, has pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied any wrongdoing.

Kelly was arrested early this year after surrendering to Chicago police over aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

He was arrested again for owing his ex-wife more than $161000 for the care of their three children.

He was later released after a woman in the Chicago area who identified herself as Kelly’s friend paid his bond.

 The 52-year-old, whose first name is Robert, was also acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008.

It is miraculous that R. Kelly, who claims to be unable to read, wrote and recorded songs known for hits like “I Believe I Can Fly” and “The World’s Greatest.”
