Ex-convict yet to take plea for killing man who ‘snatched’ his wife

A former convict alleged to have killed another man suspected for allegedly eloping with his wife shall be locked at Kakamega Main Prison awaiting his arraignment at the High Court.

This is after the Investigating Officer told the court he is through with his investigations, saying Chrispinus Likove has a hand in the death of Richard Mori Andole.

The officer said medical documents confirmed the suspect is mentally fit to take plea and that the autopsy report has been completed.

Likove is said to have attacked the deceased on January 3 at their Shinyalu estate, Kakamega East District, after suspecting he had an affair with his (Likove’s) wife.

According to court documents, the accused who was released recently after serving three years sentence for burglary is said to have cut Andole on the head with a panga.

Andole who had employed the suspect’s wife as a shop attendant allegedly developed a relationship with her.

Angered by the deceased’s actions, Likove is said to have attacked him.

Fearing attack by angry residents, the suspect tried to fle but was apprehended by police. Heconfessed to attacking and killing the man.

Police later went to the scene and recovered a blood stained panga which was taken to Shisasari Police Station as exhibit.

Inspector of Police Samuel Asuke who is investigating the matter said the woman fled and is yet to record a statement as a witness.

According to the postmortem conducted by Doctor Dixon Mchana, the cause of death was a head injury following assault.

IP Asuke asked Kakamega Senior Resident Magistrate Erick Malesi to close the file since investigations have been concluded and the suspect can be arraigned at the High Court.

Malesi ordered the suspect to be detained at Kakamega Main Prison until January 25.
