Wanga stated that the unfortunate incident should serve as a wake-up call to young girls
Her sentiments were echoed by Pamela Odhiambo (Migori Woman Rep) who appealed to young girls to avoid shortcuts
Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has urged girls to accept their humble backgrounds and leave sponsors alone.
Addressing the death of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, Wanga stated that the unfortunate incident should serve as a wake-up call to young girls.
"Our girls...this must be a lesson to you...it doesn't matter where you come from but be contented with what you have and focus...leave alone the sponsors and focus," she said.
Her sentiments were echoed by Pamela Odhiambo (Migori Woman Rep) who appealed to young girls to avoid shortcuts.
"I appeal and urge our young people that accept the conditions that you are in and avoid shortcuts.
"It is okay that you are a student...whatever humble background you have, just accept that you are a student," she said.
Odhiambo further asked mothers to be actively involved in the lives of their daughters and guide them in making the right choices.
"As a mother, I want to offer my condolences...mothers poleni sana...whether you went to school or not, be as close to your daughter as possible and make sure they are protected regardless of their social economic status," she remarked.
Condemning the killing, Odhiambo added: "We demand for respect of our lives. I demand for righteous leadership for all the male leaders. It is not right to use money and position to lure our young daughters to their deaths."
The deceased was found dead at Kodera Forest, Homa Bay County, on Wednesday morning and several leaders have since condemned her killing.
Government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe through a statement noted that the abduction was actually an ‘attempted murder’ and assured the public that the perpetrators will face the full force of the law.
