Raila says no one will stop him from becoming president, explains why they postponed the swearing-in ceremony

National Super Alliance (NASA) Coalition leader Raila Odinga on Sunday 18 November said that he will be sworn-in as the President of Kenya and no one will stop him.

The Opposition leader said this during his speech at the Coast Regional Consultative Forum of the People's Assembly held in Kikambala, Kilifi County.

“I am going to carry the Bible… nobody will stop me from carrying the Bible. It is better to stand up for the truth and die for something than die for nothing” said Mr Odinga.

The NASA leader went ahead and said that are not going to be patient for much longer until they get electoral justice.

“We are not going to be patient forever, the people of Kenya are saying no to what we call electoral injustice. The people of Kenya demand electoral justice,” said Raila.

"We will progress until we get electoral justice. We will ensure that ultimately, the winner is declared the winner,” he continued.

The Attorney General on December 7 said that swearing-in Raila as the people’s president outside the constitution is treason whose penalty is death.

"I reiterate any attempts to swear in any person as president other than the one elected in line with the constitution and in a manner provided for in the law is unlawful, illegal null and void ab initio," he told journalists at the State Law office in the capital Nairobi,” said the AG.

The launch of the People’s Assembly and swearing-in of Raila was set to take place on 12 December, Jamhuri Day but was postponed to later date according to NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi.

"The swearing-in of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as President and Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya and the launch of the People's Assembly scheduled for Tuesday, 12 December, has been postponed to a later date," said Mudavadi.

However, in a statement released by the NASA Coalition, the launch of the Assembly is set to take place early next year that will be proceeded with a series of regional consultative forums.

"Following the postponement of the launch of the People's Assembly that was to take place on Jamhuri Day, Tuesday December 12, the Organizing Committee wishes to announce the resumption of the People's Assembly process,” read part of the statement.

Raila Odinga said that the reason why they postponed the swearing-in was because political temperatures were too high at that time. He also went ahead and said that there was a high chance of chaos erupting.
