Governor Sonko rescues bereaved mother detained in hospital for failure to settle medical bills

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Mbuvi on Tuesday 4 October came to the rescue of a mother who had been detained in St Akidiva Hospital, Mabera. The Nairobi Governor cleared the bills of the bereaved mother who lost her four children in a deadly accident in Kuria West.

Reports say that the mother, Margret Magutu, was unable to clear her medical bills worth Sh29, 500. Governor Sonko pledged to cater for the funeral expenses of the four children by providing four hearses, four coffins and clearing all the medical bills.

“I have also sent her Sh100, 000 to cater for funeral expenses. I was so saddened by the unfortunate incident,” said the Governor.

Margaret lost her four children, John (15), Elizabeth (13), Paulina (10) and Vincent (7) after a lorry ferrying sand along Mabera-Mtomurabu road, lost control and crashed into her house. The four children died on the spot while the fifth one was admitted at the same hospital the mother was in, after suffering injuries.
