Meet the 24-year-old MP elect, who asked voters to look for his one and only sweater on the ballot

A 23-year-old John Mwirigi, must be the talk of Igembe South after clinching the much-coveted Member of Parliament seat, beating close competitor Joseph Mwereria.

Mwirigi managed to get a total of 19,366 votes, making him one of the few boys from university joining the political table.

Though Mwirigi is still a third year student – his story is one to savour, as he only managed to campaign on funds donated by his well wishers and supporters.

He also worked as a boda boda rider on weekends to earn more money. Mwirigi, who did not have enough cash to parade posters all over town, told his supporters to go to the ballot and look for his sweater as his party symbol.

He ran on an independent ticket, beating his Jubilee Party rival Mwereria – making history.
