President Uhuru's former adviser set to launch his presidential campaign as independent candidate

Presidnt Uhuru Kenyatta’s former adviser Joe Nyagah will be on the ballot for presidency in the August general elections as he is set to launch his bid to unseat the president as an independent candidate.

Nyagah who is also the chancellor of the Cooperative University of Kenya served in the Grand coalition government as a Cooperative Development minister after he was appointed to the position by the Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He has announced that he will launch his campaign for presidency officially on Tuesday May 23, 2017.

He had been the President’s adviser on the Lapsset project, position he dropped by resignation.

On Saturday, Nyagah expressed confidence in his move and promised to show how a number of Kenyans of goodwill had chosen to support him to clinch the presidency.

“We have been preparing and putting systems in place. I have received a lot of support and many Kenyans of goodwill are ready to join me. You will see some of them on Tuesday,” he said.

He has dismissed claims that he is being branded to share the Mt Kenya votes with President Kenyatta.

He has pointed out to more dynamics emerging in the August 8 polls but promised to speak more about his move during the launch.

Just a week ago,a gubernatorial seat aspirant for Embu dismissed Mr Nyaga’s move and asked him to wait for 2022 because according to him, Nyaga could not get the votes required to win on August 8.
