Former FKF boss slapped with a 10-year ban from football

Sam Nyamweya, the former Football Kenya president has been suspended from all football-related activities in Kenya for at least ten years.

This is according to a letter sent to newsrooms signed by FKF Chief Executive Officer and Secretary General, Robert Muthomi, addressed to Nyamweya.

In National Executive meeting held on 21st march 2017, the decision to suspend Sam Nyamweya was made due to;

Firstly, he acted contrary to FIFA, CAF and FKF statutes, he went ahead and filed a case against FKF in an ordinary court thereby the FKF constitution.

Nyamweya presented a case to the high court amid KPL-FKF impasse seeking colluding in the management and promotion of football in the country.

Secondly, Nyamweya withdrew a total of 2.5 million shillings from the federation’s account in contrary to the law. The money was meant for FKF Aberdares Branch.

There are also allegations that he also stole 48.9 million development aid funds from FIFA.

Nyamweya who has headed the federation from 2011-2015, saw his tenure in office marred with countless issues of corruption and embezzlement of funds. It is also the period where Kenyan football has really struggled; ranging from money being unavailable for national teams to delayed payments for players and referees among others.

Football fans have also weighed in the matter, trolling Nyamweya on Twitter;

@leemakwiny… Sam Nyamweya is the reason Kisumu stadium is not yet complete. He should be jailed for eating money for its development
