Former East Africa SuperSport boss Auka Gecheo is the new Executive Director of Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa).

Gecheo, was officially unveiled yesterday in Dar es Salaam-Tanzania, replacing Nicholas Musonye, who stepped down after serving as the regional football body’s Secretary-General for two decades.

The former sports journalist turned-football administrator, who has set his sights on the 2022 Kakamega gubernatorial seat, backed Gecheo to push the regional body to the next level.

“Cecafa have officially appointed Auka Gecheo as their new Executive Director. “I’m now a free man and ready to face the other challenges in life,” Musonye told Standard Sports on phone from Dar es Salaam.

“Gecheo has been in football for long and he’s not a stranger to Cecafa. As far as I’m concerned, Cecafa have made the right decision. He’s a resourceful young man and everybody is happy and comfortable with his appointment. I’m confident he will take Cecafa to the next level.”

Other elected officials include South Sudan’s Amin Francis and Eritrea’s Esayas Abraha who are serving as Karia’s deputies, while Jira Isayaa (Ethiopia) and Ssekamana Jean (Rwanda) are board members.
