Malik wins 2019 Junior Strokes play title at Muthaiga

Muthaiga Club junior golfer Taimur Malik won the 2019 Junior Strokes play overall title at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi yesterday.

The 16-year-old handicap one golfer produced 294  gross to beat a team of 66 juniors. Malik made a false start in Day One on Monday with an eight over par 79 gross but recovered with a three over par 74 gross in the second round and two over par 73 gross on Tuesday. He then produced an excellent three under par 68 gross to claim victory.

“It has been a tough event especially in the first day but learned some lessons and I am happy to win,” said Malik.

His club mate Mutahi Kibugu became the gross winner with 297 gross (78,72,73,74) while Zubair Khan settled for runner up with 301 gross (76-72-74,79).

Dubai-based Kenyan lady junior golfer Jaimee Gachaga won the girls' overall title with 372 gross after posting 99, 91, 91 and 90 gross.

Vet lab’s Leo Zurivac won the gross title for 14-15 years age group after carding 314 gross (87, 75, 80, 72) as Muthaiga’s Njoroge Kibugu won runner up slot in the same age group with 315 gross (75, 79, 79, 82).

Nyali’s Andrew Wahome won under 13 years old cadre with 327 gross (90, 79, 75, 83) while Vet lab’s Krish Beiju settled for runner up spot in the same category with 346 gross (89, 87, 78, 92).

The Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) Junior Stroke play Championship, popularly known as Boys and Girls is a three-day 72-hole tournament that attracts leading juniors across golf clubs in the country and one of the world ranking events in the country.
