Golf: Serah Kanyereri wins Coast Ladies trophy

Kenyan Lady golfer Serah Kanyereri beat huge odds to win 2019 Coast Ladies overall title at the par 72 Vipingo Ridge Golf course in Kilifi on Friday.

The Nairobi Royal Cub golfer carded a four-over-par 76 gross to win the silver trophy, beating some Tanzanians. Earlier, Ugandans bowed out due to high pressure in the region.

“This is a fantastic course with many challenges. It has some tricky pin positions and I am excited to win. I hope to defend the title next year,” said Kanyereri.

She was four strokes ahead of Tanzanian Ayne Mangombe from Lugalo golf club, who was the gross winner while Kenyans Esther Chumo from Eldoret scored 81 gross on count back to take runner up spot.

Chumo tied on the same score with third-placed Mercy Nyanchama of Vet Lab. Lucy Kisia won the bronze medal with 99 gross while Joyce Wafula scored 100 gross on count back to finish second after tying with Mary Wainaina who was third.

Kenyans Racheal Ndei on 71 nett and Mary Wambugu on 74th nett bagged silver and bronze respectively.

It was the fourth and final leg of the annual 2019 Ladies Coast Open 2019 Golf Championships staged at four golf clubs at the Coast.

It started last Tuesday at Leisure Resort Course in Kwale where Tanzania's Hawa Wanyanche won before Kenya's Mercy Nyancham claimed victory at the Nyali golf course in Mombasa on Wednesday.

Vipingo Ridge was the title sponsor at the 18-hole contest.

At the Sea link Mombasa course on Thursday,Tanzania's Hawa Wanyanche emerged the overall winner at the Vipingo ridge course in Kilifi County on Friday.

The four competitions attracted 200 lady golfers. The ladies are preparing for the forthcoming 2019 Uganda Ladies Open Championships in Kampala from August 26 to 31 at Kampala’s Lake Victoria Serena Golf Club.
