Golf: Tanzania's Wanyanche emerges top in 2019 Ladies Coast Open

Tanzania pulled a fast one Kenyans as they took the lead at the par 71 Sea-link Mombasa course in the Ladies Coast Open 2019 Championships on Thursday.

Tanzania’s Hawa Wanyanche of Lugalo Golf Club emerged the Overall winner as she carded a four over par 75 gross to chalk up the victory.

Wanyeche, handicap five, won after sinking three birdies at the par five fifth hole and two back-to-back birdies at the par four 11 and the shortest par three 12 hole.

Wanyeche added ten level pars against some bogey shots on both nines to claim victory.

“The course was tough with strong winds that affected our drives but I am happy to win trophy,” said Wanyeche.

Kenya’s handicap four Serah Kanyeriri of Royal Nairobi Golf Club claimed the silver division trophy on 80 gross.

Handicap three Kellie Gachaga of Muthaiga Club, who is the title holder, claimed the runners up slot on 81 gross.

Kenya’s handicap 24 Patrician Ngina of Muthaiga won the bronze division on 98 gross while Thika Sports Club’s handicap 21 Patricia Karimi  emerged runners up with 100 gross.

Tanzania’s Chiku Elias on 77 nett and Nyali’s Regina Kaveke on 75 nett were silver nett and bronze nett winners respectively.

Club lady captain Suzan Mwangi thanked sponsors and the participants from Tanzania and Uganda.

The showpiece is a Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU)-GOTY event that teed off on Tuesday at the Diani’s par 72 Leisure Resort Course in Kwale.

The final 18 holes GOTY rounds was played yesterday at the Vipingo Ridge Course and the event ends today.
