Alexandre Lacazette explained how Arsenal are more organised and playing with far more confidence this season, after the Gunners matched last season's Premier League points tally with seven games still to play.

France hitman Lacazette scored the second goal, adding to Aaron Ramsey's opener, as Unai Emery's men claimed a 2-0 win over Newcastle on Monday night.

A 10th successive home win for Arsenal propelled them to third in the table with 63 points - two clear of Tottenham in fourth.

On February 2, Emery's side were 10 points behind their north London rivals and were very much outsiders in the race for Champions League spots.

Now, they find themselves in pole position, playing in front of a reinvigorated Emirates crowd.

Speaking after Arsenal's win, Lacazette revealed what boss Emery had told his side ahead of the clash, insisting it was a night for patience.

“It was a big game tonight, a tough game," said Lacazette. “The coach said we had to be patient and efficient in the box and we did that.

“It's always like this against Newcastle. We are happy."

Lacazette also pinpointed the difference between Emery's Arsenal, and the side that finished sixth under Arsene Wenger last term.

“I can feel the difference in the atmosphere from last season, now we can maybe go to the Champions League," said the Frenchman.

“The fans helped us to get third place. We work every day to be in third place, now we must stay in this position. I would like to score away from home too but if we win that's all that is important.

“We are more confident. Everybody knows what we have to do."

Lacazette led the line against the Toon with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - the club's top goalscorer this term - only a substitute at the Emirates.

Emery confirmed after the win that the Gabonese had been a doubt with a fever in the lead up to the encounter.

"Aubameyang has a temperature for two days and was a doubt," said Emery.

"He came with us and made a good impact and felt good in 30 minutes."
