Heartwarming message Paul Pogba revealed on shirt when he scored a stunning free-kick in France's win over Russia

Paul Pogba displayed a message in memory of his dad on his shirt when he scored for France in their international friendly victory over Russia on Tuesday.

The Manchester United midfielder has been suffering with form over the past month, and has found himself in and out of the Red Devils team.

But Didier Deschamps started him in his side's World Cup warm-up clash against the hosts, and his confidence in the midfielder paid dividens.

In the second half of the match in Russia, Pogba fired a free-kick up and over the wall and into the back of the net to double France's lead in their 3-1 win.

The £89million man then wheeled away in delight before dropping to his knees, lifting up his shirt, and raising his hands to the sky.

On his shirt were the words: "Bon Anniversaire, Papa. Allah y Rahmou," which translates as: "Happy birthday, dad. May Allah have mercy on him."

The Manchester United midfielder's father Fassou Antoine Pogba - who would have been 80 today - passed away in May 2017 after battling a long-term illness.

Pogba took to Twitter after the match and posted an image of himself celebrating his goal, alongside the caption: "Happy birthday Dad, merci [thank you] for watching over me and my brothers."

Fassou memorably appeared in the stands for France's draw with Switzerland during Euro 2016, with his other two sons Florentin and Mathias wearing shirts saying "Happy Father's Day" in French.

He appeared weak but delighted to be in the company of his sons, who are Guinea internationals, while watching Paul, who at the end of the match revealed the same shirt.

In March last year, Pogba shared an image on Instagram presenting his dad with a 79th birthday cake. He captioned the image: "Happy birthday dear Dad, I feel blessed to be your son #pogdaddy #fighter #pogbance."
