Struggling Western Stima have made changes on their technical bench, appointing former head coach Henry Omino the new technical director.
Ugandan Richard Makumi takes over as the new head coach and will come with an assistant after the power men sent home Patrick Odhiambo, who was Omino’s deputy.
The changes were announced on Wednesday night by the Western Stima chairman, Laban Jobita, after the power men failed to beat Kakamega Homeboyz in a match that ended in a barren draw.
“We made the changes after a crisis meeting with the management, which raised several issues and questioned why the team could not perform yet allowances and salaries are paid on time,” said Jobita.
He added “It was agreed that Omino be redeployed as technical director and we appoint Makumi as his replacement. He will come with his assistant.”
Jobita said the management had held a meeting with the technical bench and players in May during which it was agreed that performance has to get better, but nothing has changed.
Prior to joining Stima, Makumi was the head coach of Mbarara City and takes over on a two-year contract.
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia opened a nine points gap at the summit of the Kenyan Premier League after beating hosts Chemelil Sugar 3-0 in Kisumu.
Goals from Jacques tuyisenge (brace) and Kenneth Muguna helped K’Ogalo to hit the 50 points mark at the top with Sopafaka coming second with 41 points.
Tuyisenge, was the hero of the day after he scored a double, nine minutes apart from each other as Kenneth Muguna scored the third goal to make things 3-0.
George Odhiambo, set up Jacques, who was stationed right inside the box, and who turned a little to send Jairus Adira the opposite direction as he sent the ball deep in the right flank to score the first goal in the 22nd minute of the game.
