Wenger says Arsenal decide Sanchez won't be sold

Alexis Sanchez and Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger today insisted Arsenal have made a decision not to sell Alexis Sanchez - and promised to stick to it.

Wenger was quizzed on Sanchez’s future after the Chile star admitted he wants to play Champions League football next season.

Manchester City are favourites to sign Sanchez but Wenger insisted that he will not be sold even though he has just one year left on his contract.

Gunners boss Wenger, talking at a pre-match press conference ahead of a friendly with Bayern Munich, said: “The decision has been made and we will stick to that. The decision is not to sell.”

Wenger was clearly irked by Sanchez’s remarks about the Champions League - and insisted it was up to him to get Arsenal back into Europe’s top competition after missing out last term.

“I don’t give too much importance to things that are translated, you know,” said Wenger. “The whole interview that I got didn’t really mean that.

“The main focus for us is to concentrate on the Premier League and the Premier League for me today is more important than the Champions League.

“We rested sometimes players in the Group stages of the Champions League for the Premier League so that’s become the biggest importance for us.

“For the rest… we played 20 years in the Champions League, that’s 17 years before Sanchez arrived and three years with him so he can get us back in there.”
