You will be sued for naming ‘innocent state officers’ in Eurobond saga, Jubilee MPS tell Raila

The ruling Jubilee coalition has hit back at CORD leader Raila Odinga accusing him of economic sabotage, and asked Kenyans to ignore his “baseless propaganda with the contempt it deserves”.

The leaders also warned Raila to prepare for a court battle for naming eight “innocent State officers” in the Eurobond saga.

Led by Senate Majority Leader Kindiki Kithure, the Jubilee MPs, yesterday said the CORD leader’s reckless remarks are aimed at destroying institutions and careers.

MPs Kabando wa Kabando, Ferdinand Waititu, Kimani Ichungwa, Joyce Laboso, Alice Nganga, Johnston Sakaja and Muriuki Karue told Raila to stop destroying careers of “innocent State officers” who are not politicians.

They asked the eight officers linked to the Eurobond saga to institute legal proceedings against Raila. Prof Kindiki said the former Prime Minister failed to name alleged thieves of Eurobond proceeds, and provide details of their involvement.

“We are asking all the public officers who were maliciously named to proceed urgently to court, not only to seek damages, in terms of personal injuries to their character, but to sue CORD leader for criminal libel,” he said.

The Senate Majority Leader regretted that Raila, who has aspirations to lead the country, does not believe in any local institutions.

“He downgraded what he wanted to do of naming thieves to naming people of interests to be investigated over the Eurobond proceedings. At no point was there any submissions identifying a public officer culpable of any wrongdoing and demonstrating that wrong doing,” he said.

Ms Ng’ang’a accused the former premier of double standards in the fight against corruption. She claimed Raila was surrounded by corrupt leaders but was busy hitting at President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

Mr Ichungwa said the CORD leader’s remarks could deny Kenya foreign bonds in the future. Mr Kabando said it was ironical that Raila protects corrupt individuals within his circle but keeps on castigating his opponents.

And MPs from the Gusii community have demanded that Raila apologises to Central Bank of Kenya chairman Mohammed Nyaoga for linking him to the Eurobond saga. MPs Jimmy Angwenyi, Ben Momanyi, Mongare Okongo and Zebedeo Opore warned Raila to trade carefully when linking individuals to graft. “We challenge him to provide authentic documentations on the saga instead of raising unnecessary temperatures,” said Mr Angwenyi.
