Murang'a Governor Mwangi wa Iria to sue Kigumo MP for 'defamation'

The political rivalry between Governor Mwangi wa Iria and Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau took a new twist after the former threatened to sue the latter for defamation.

Mr Iria said the lawmaker claimed that he (Iria) used recovering alcoholics at Ihura Stadium to block MCAs from accessing the chambers to table an impeachment motion against Finance Executive George Kamau.

The governor gave Mr Kamau seven days to apologise for allegedly portraying him as a war monger. In a letter dated September 26, to Mr Kamau lawyer Mbugua Ng'ang'a said: "You projected our client as a warlord unworthy to be entrusted with the esteemed position of county governor." The MP had not apologised by the time the seven days lapsed on Wednesday.
