Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka toured Lower Eastern region where he urged Kenyans to take advantage of the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) set to begin next week to enlist.

Kalonzo asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to make use of the 8,200 BVR kits to ensure Kenyans are not denied the opportunity to participate in the General Election.

He said the equipment would ensure names of ghost voters do not appear in the register.

“The Biometric Voter Registration will enable the commission to wipe out double registration or illegal ghost voters,” he said.

The VP at the same time directed the department of Registration of Persons to move with speed and issue national identity cards to individuals over 18 years to enable them register as voters.

“It has become clear that thousands of Kenyans are yet to get IDs especially now that the country is preparing for elections,” he said.

“It is because of this reason that I direct Registrar of Persons to ensure Kenyans are issued with IDs especially those who had applied so that they are not locked out of important activities like employment and elections,” he added.

Speaking at Katama Primary School in his Mwingi North Constituency, yesterday Kalonzo appealed to the electorate to vote for leaders irrespective of ethnic and political backgrounds come the next General Election.

The VP who was accompanied by Public Works acting PS Gideon Mulyungi asked Kenyans to vote for development oriented leaders.

Kalonzo reiterated that he was better placed among other presidential contenders to occupy State House citing his wide experience over the last 28 years in Government. He noted that the greatest challenge facing the country was poverty and ethnicity which require a visionary leader to fight them.
