 Mike Sonko offers to gift Ferdinard Omanyala a limousine.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has listed several things he would like to gift Kenya's fastest sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala for winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Taking to Twitter, Sonko congratulated Omanyala for his win and said he would prepare a grand gesture for the sprinter once he got back into the country, offering 15 limousines to pick him up at the airport.

In addition, Sonko said he would gift Omanyala one of the limousines and throw him a 10-day party to show his appreciation for making Kenya proud.

"Pongezi sana na serikali ikikubali nitakupangia sherehe kubwa ya kukulaki na limousines 15 zikupokee na nikufanyie sherehe ya 10 days na nikupee limo moja bure iwe yako. Twakupenda sana for making us proud," Sonko wrote on Twitter.

Omanyala was crowned the new Commonwealth Games 100m champion after he dethroned defending champion and rival Akani Simbine from South Africa.

He clocked 10.02 seconds in the finals while Simbine finished second after running in 10.13 seconds to take silver as Sri Lankan Yupun Abeykoon took bronze in 10.14 seconds.

Omanyala's win makes him the first Kenyan sprinter in 60 years to finish first in the Men's 100m at the event after Seraphino Antao in 1962 when the event was still run over 100 yards.

Celebrating his win, Omanyala posted a video of the race on Twitter and quoted Isaiah 55:5, saying;

"For the glory and honour of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you so much for the support and the positivity."

In 2021, the sprint sensation was gifted a brand new Toyota Harrier by a gaming company as a reward for breaking the African 100 metres record.
