A secret lover has halted the burial of a Kiambu tycoon demanding to be recognised as his wife.

The burial of Peter Njenga has been thrown into limbo after a woman identified as Joy emerged from the woodworks claiming the reclusive millionaire sired two kids, both boys, with her.

Njenga died of kidney failure on February 20. The man is a confidant of a Mt Kenya billionaire businessman, and there is talk they were business partners.

Now Njenga’s recognised wife, Mary Njehia, has been left more confused after Joy stopped the marriage of her husband of 20 years.

Mary was slapped with a court order stopping the burial and Joy is adamant that the remains of the tycoon can only be interred subject to being recognised as Njenga’s wife.

Relatives and friends had gone to pick the body at Kenyatta University Hospital Mortuary on Tuesday before the ceremony was halted.

According to a relative, who sought anonymity, Joy filed an application before a Ruiru court asking the court to stop with immediate effect the burial of Njenga, her supposed husband. The man claims he knew of the secret affair, in which Mary was kept in the dark.

“Joy is known by few people who were close to Njenga. I am shocked that Joy has turned out to be greedy; she has a home and a flat and she should just allow this noble man to rest in peace,” he said.

Another close friend of Njenga revealed that when the tycoon started the affair, he bought Joy a Toyota Rav4 similar to that of his wife. “In fact, they fueled at the same petrol station along Thika Road,” said the source.

Another family member complained of how Joy was not satisfied with the wealth she got from the late Njenga.
