Locals urged to secure identity cards

Women and youth in Narok County have been challenged to register and secure national identity cards (IDs) ahead of the coming General Election.

Leaders from the region noted that several youth and women in the region have not obtained the vital document hence risk being locked out from participating in the coming polls.

Led by Narok’s senate seat aspirant Andrew Leteipa Ole Sunkuli, the leaders decried the situation and challenged the ministry of immigration to scale up its operations in ensuring even the most remote areas in the region were covered.

Addressing women and boda boda operators in Kilgoris at the weekend, Mr Sunkuli reported that more than 30,000 youth who have already attained the age of 18 were yet to secure the document and that proper sensitisation was essential. He challenged them to take advantage of the ongoing mobile ID registration carried out at the district levels to secure the document and avoid the last rush as the Election approaches.

He said due to lack of such vital documents, most of the residents were unable to transact any business while the youth can’t secure jobs.

“We are appealing to the Government to ensure that no Kenyan is denied of his/her constitutional right. It is quite unfair for our people to be rendered poor just because they lack this vital document,” he said.
