Mourners attending the funeral service of veteran journalist Robin Njogu at the All Saints Cathedral, Nairobi have poured commendatory tributes for him.
Njogu (pictured) succumbed to Covid-19 at the Aga Khan Hospital last week where he was undergoing treatment.
He will be buried on Saturday at his home in Cherangany, Trans Nzoia County. Only family and close friends will attend the burial as per the Covid-19 protocols.
A somber mood engulfed the funeral service of the Radio Citizen Managing Editor who was eulogised as a people person and great mentor.
His family will remember him as a friend, mentor and family man who always made time for them despite his busy schedule.
He is survived by his wife and three children.
Journalist Eric Latiff and once a colleague told congregants that Njogu was a pillar of so many things.
“He put people together. He was a stickler for time and detail,” he said.
His colleagues at Royal Media Services described him as a sharp mind. “He diversified radio news beyond the traditional consumer methods,” Citizen TV’s Joe Ageyo said of the journalist.
Kenya Editors Guild President Churchill Otieno described Njogu as a patriot and a man who stood for journalistic excellence.
Friends remembered him as a life-lover and great mentor.
Political leaders including the President, his deputy, Cabinet Secretaries had but good things to say of the journalist.
“Robin was an excellent journalist who mentored many young people in the Fourth Estate. We will forever cherish his skills and expertise in mass media, especially in radio where he has left a huge mark of excellence," President Uhuru said in a letter.
Victor Bwire, the Head of Media Development and Strategy at the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) described him as a gentle soul.

“For perfection and being on top of things in news, he was highly competitive. He would never want to be behind news, and his editing and contextualisation of issues was high level- he loved his job and enjoyed being a journalist” he said.
