How rent dispute led police to uncover city murder of two women

A rent dispute between a tenant and his landlady might help the Buru Buru police officers uncover those behind the killing of two women.

A 42-year-old wedding planner, who is now in police custody, was kicked out by the landlady in Umoja II estate after a disagreement over rent, according to the police.

This was at the end of May when the landlady, Nancy Wanja, locked the house and ordered David Migwi out.

Foul smell

Even after he was kicked out, Migwi managed to access the house to remove some of his personal belongings. He however left behind a blue water tank and bales of wedding ceremony décor.

It is when the landlady contracted three men to clean the house that they realised that there was foul smell. They, however, did not bother to check the source of the smell and just removed garbage from the house.

But when some residents noted the stench and called the police, human body parts were found among the garbage. They were informed that the stuff came from the house where the suspect lived.

Police have produced in court an affidavit implicating Migwi in the murder of 36-year-old Penina Wairimu in 2019. Wairimu was reported missing at the Buru Buru Police Station on April 29, last year.

Three days later, police discovered severed body parts that were strewn in different parts of the city including Ladhies Road, where limbs and torso packed in a sack were found.

Last moments

Other body parts were recovered at the Dandora dumpsite. Investigators have retraced Wairimu’s last moments to a city club where she was seen leaving in the company of a man.

This was on the night of April 26, 2019, at around 9.45 pm.

On May 31, decomposing body parts were discovered at a school playing ground in Umoja estate.

Buru Buru DCI chief Aden Guyo said they are yet to establish the identity of the latest victim before they can establish how she met her death.

Last Sunday, Buru Buru police received information that a blood stained sack had been spotted at a primary school compound in Umoja two estate.
