Police have launched investigations into the murder of a Kenya Medical Training College student whose body was found dumped next to Homa Bay prison.
Austine Omondi who was pursuing Clinical Medicine at the Homa Bay Campus was killed by unknown assailants before dawn on Friday, October 28.
Residents were shocked to find the body of the second-year student dumped on the roadside near a house he rented.
His body had bruises, and detectives claim he may have been hit by blunt objects.
Semenya Sub-Location Assistant chief Erick Odhiambo said it seemed the student bled profusely before the death.
"There was a pool of blood where his body lay. What killed him is still unclear," Odhiambo said.
Homa Bay Sub-county DCIO Monica Berege said investigations are ongoing.
"Our officers are on the ground to investigate the death of the student," Berege said.

The DCI officers went to KMTC to trace the last moments of the student as they pitched together his last movements. The student has not been residing in school.
The body was moved to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
His colleagues gathered at the mortuary to view his body.
One of the students who did not want to be quoted described Omondi as a humble student. He said they never heard of any conflict between Omondi and anybody in the area.
"There were no signs that he was engaged in serious squabbles with anybody," he said.
