Nzoia Sugar Football Club's title ambitions were shattered on Saturday after losing 1-0 to Kariobangi Sharks in a round 31 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League match played at Sudi Stadium.
Keith Imbali's winner in the 66th minute saw Sharks end the sugar men's 15-match unbeaten streak at the then fortress in Bungoma County.
Nzoia had not lost at Sudi in the last one year and were highly expected to cruise over Sharks and inch closer to the title.
A win for Nzoia would have seen Salim Babu's charges move to within a point off log leaders Tusker ahead of the top of the table match against Gor Mahia on Sunday.
On the other hand, Sharks's win saw them end their four match winless streak.
At Kasarani Annex, Sofapaka came from behind beat Posta Rangers 2-1.
Michael Apudo's goal from the penalty spot saw the Mailmen take an early lead in the first half but Sofapaka went home with maximum points courtesy of goals by Stephen Okola and Roddy Manga.
The win saw Batoto ba Mungu confirm their status in the league as they move 15 points away from the relegation.
Despite the defeat, Posta Rangrs who are appoint above Sofapaka are already safe.
