The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Friday announced 1,554 new coronavirus infections, taking the country’s total caseload to 81,656.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe (pictured) also warned those attempting to travel out of the country using fake Covid-19 certificates saying health officials are alert and anyone contravening health protocols will face the full force of the law.
In a statement to media houses, Kagwe said the new cases are from 9,389 samples which push the country’s cumulative tests to 870,950.
In terms of gender, 950 are male and 604 are female. The youngest case is a five-month-old baby while the oldest is aged 97.
Of the new cases, 1,526 are Kenyans while 28 are foreigners.
On a positive note, 599 patients recovered, with 476 from the home-based care programme while 123 were discharged from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 54,125.
On a sad note, Kagwe said 14 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing Kenya’s fatalities to 1,441.
Out of the 72 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 41 are on ventilatory support while 30 are on supplemental oxygen.
On supplementary Oxygen, the country has 93 patients, 68 of whom are in general wards while 25 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU)
A total of 1,200 are admitted in various health facilities while 7,521 are in the Home-based Isolation and Care.

In the county distribution, Nairobi leads with 546 cases, Mombasa 159, Kilifi 153, Kiambu 96, Kericho 68, Meru 45, Kisumu 44, Nakuru 37, Bomet 33, Kakamega 32, Machakos 30, Kajiado 29, Nyandarua 27, Busia 25, Nyeri 25, Kisii 24, Uasin Gishu 22, Siaya 18, Lamu 16, Murang’a 15, Laikipia 14, Kitui 13, Samburu 12, Taita Taveta 11, Isiolo 10, Trans Nzoia 9, Bungoma 7, Nandi 6, Embu 6, Makueni 5, Turkana 4, Kwale 4, Vihiga 3, Homa Bay 2, Marsabit 2, Baringo 1 and Nyamira 1.
