Defending champions Tusker FC are confident of ending Kakamega Homeboyz’s unbeaten run in the league when they travel to face the joint-leaders in a rescheduled Football Kenya Federation Premier League match at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega at 3pm today.

A win for Homeboyz will see them open a three-point gap at the top as they are currently joint top with KCB on 21 points after nine matches. The bankers have played 10 games.

While Tusker has had a rocky start to the season, they will be out to build on a slim 1-0 win against Nzoia Sugar last weekend with pressure mounting on veteran gaffer Robert Matano to guide the team back to the top.

Homeboyz have not beaten Tusker in all competitions in the past four meetings. The last time Homeboyz beat the Brewers was in February 2019.

Tusker are 12th on 10 points from seven encounters this season.

Speaking ahead of the match, Tusker goalkeeper Patrick Matasi says he is delighted to have made his first two league starts for the team since returning from Ethiopia, noting he is even more excited after ensuring the team keeps consecutive clean sheets.

Matasi made his first league start in the 0-0 draw with Sofapaka at Ruaraka and followed up with another clean sheet as the team won 1-0 away to Nzoia Sugar in Bungoma last Sunday where he was also the captain.

The goalkeeper has praised the team for the effort and said the confidence is improving.

“They have had their good run so far and we respect them. We have also managed to rise from our lows and I think now it is just a matter of playing our hearts out, play compact as a team and everyone in the team giving our all,” said Matasi.

Meanwhile, the other match pitting Gor Mahia and Posta Rangers has been postponed.
