Manchester United youngster Max Taylor is in the squad for Thursday's Europa League clash against Astana - a year after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.

Taylor, 19, is travelling with the United squad to Kazakhstan in what will be a huge boost for the defender after he was given the all-clear to resume training just two months ago, having undergone chemotherapy.

The teenage centre-back will now hope for some action on the pitch in the next step of his inspirational journey, with United boss Solskjaer expected to give young players and fringe squad members a chance to impress against Astana.

James Garner, 18, Mason Greenwood, 18, and Dylan Levitt, 19, are all understood to be part of the squad, while head of first-team development Nicky Butt will join Solskjaer on the trip to Astana.

United are already assured of qualification for the last 32, and currently sit top of Group L as they look to subject Astana to a fifth defeat in five group games tonight.

Earlier this year, Taylor was given positive news in his fight against cancer when it was revealed he had responded successfully to chemotherapy.

A statement released by the club In February said "everybody looks forward to seeing him wear the red shirt again".

United said at the time that Taylor was still in the recovery process and would continue to work with the club's medical department for the "foreseeable future".

On receiving the news, Taylor said: "I would like to thank everyone at the club that has helped me since day one.

“The nurses at the Christie and HCA healthcare, plus Melissa from MacMillan Cancer Support, have all provided me with wonderful care.

"Words cannot describe how much my family has helped me through this. My mum and stepdad Matthew, my brother George, Meir and my girlfriend Lydia, and all the rest of the family have provided invaluable support.”

After Thursday night's clash with Astana, United entertain Dutch side Alkmaar - who are currently second in the group - at Old Trafford on December 12.
