Sarah and Mark never gave up hope - and now they're proud parents of a 'right little bouncer'

For a long time, Sarah and Mark Brennan had to cope with heartbreak after heartbreak.

Having suffered 10 miscarriages in as many years, nobody would blame them for losing any hope of having a family.

But after all the heartache came joy when their 'miracle' baby, Eryn, was born last September.

The couple, from Llantwit Major in Wales, had resorted to IVF - but no sooner had they been placed on the waiting list, they found out that 36-year-old Sarah was pregnant, WalesOnline reports .

Despite this good news, it wasn't all plain sailing.

At 29 weeks, Sarah's waters broke. What followed was a two-week stay in Singleton Hospital, Swansea, where she was closely monitored before being sent home.

When she did finally go into labour on September 30, 2014, Eryn was still seven weeks premature and weighed just 3lb 11oz.

Mark and Sarah, who had already endured so much, now faced a long wait until they could take their beloved daughter home.

Sarah told WalesOnline: “She spent the first three weeks of her life in the SCBU in Bridgend , with us travelling back and forth every day.

“The care in SCBU was excellent. What they do there is just amazing.

“Although Eryn was born nearly two months early, she is a right little bouncer now. You would never think she was a premature baby.”

Now the couple wish to mark their baby's first birthday with a special gift to the medical professionals who helped bring her into the world.

Sarah was so grateful to the Special Care Baby Unit at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, she nominated staff there for a charitable donation.

Her employer will donate £500 to the unit to mark Eryn's milestone.
