A man accused of arson at Mukuru area in Nairobi has denied the charges in court. James Getumo (pictured above) was charged with setting fire to a house valued at Sh200,000 belonging to Hellen Kanini who is said to be his ex-girlfriend.
The incident, according to court records, occurred on January 5. On the material day, it is reported that Getumo had dared that he would stab the complainant or set the house ablaze. For this reason, it is reported that the complainant spent the night at her friend's house. She was scared for her life.
Around 3am on January 5, she received information that her house was on fire. Efforts by residents to put it out were futile. The suspect was traced and arrested. In court, the man denied any wrongdoing and was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 and an alternative bond of Sh200,000.
