Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has declared Monday, October 10 a public holiday to mark Utamaduni Day.
In a statement on Friday, October 7, Dr Matiang'i said Kenyans will use the day to celebrate the country's rich cultural diversity.
"All citizens are reminded to honour the day by recognising and celebrating the rich cultural diversity of Kenya in a manner that promotes our unity, national cohesion and economic progress," said the Cabinet Secretary.
In previous regimes, October 10 was called Moi Day, and it was honoured to celebrate Kenya's second president Daniel Moi (now deceased).
The holiday was observed between 1988 and 2010, when the new constitution was adopted.
Post 2010, the Moi Day holiday was scrapped, but the High Court in November 2017 reinstated it, saying the right procedure was not followed to remove it from Kenya's holidays' calendar.
