Eva Carneiro’s lessons returns to haunt Jose Mourinho after Sunday’s defeat at Watford

Living

Some typical post-match smoke-screening from Jose Mourinho after Sunday’s defeat at Watford.

And while it was curious for the Manchester United manager to publicly criticise Luke Shaw – a youngster just back from serious injury – the most after such a rotten performance, his treatment of Anthony Martial was perhaps more troubling still.

Replays of Martial’s clash of heads with Daryl Janmaat suggested it was unsafe for him to continue – and the striker soon lost possession in the build-up to the game's opening goal.

But Mourinho sounded rather dismissive of Martial post-match – and incorrectly blamed referee Michael Oliver for failing to penalise Miguel Britos for a supposed foul on his France international, when it had ultimately been the manager’s mistake in failing to replace him sooner.

It suggested that, after the Eva Carneiro affair at Chelsea just over a year ago, Mourinho still isn’t a medical expert, Mirror reveals.

And also that football, as a whole, still isn’t taking concussions seriously enough.
