The Government has raised the red flag over land conmen in Laikipia East District.
Area DC Julius Mathenge said the Government was investigating a syndicate in possession of a counterfeit seal, which they use to forge title deeds.
He said four fake land documents had been impounded at the lands registration office in Nanyuki.
Mr Mathenge ordered the local Criminal Investigations Department officers to pursue the criminals involved.
"With the four fake documents, we believe these conmen must be at work and we need to arrest the syndicate," he said.
The DC said they suspect the gang was working with rogue Lands Ministry officials.
Meanwhile, Thika West DC Wilson Njega has warned the public against buying land from a property development company in Thika.
Mr Njega said the land advertised by the company for sale in Kilimambogo and Kakuzi did not exist.
"The land the firm is showing to potential buyers belongs to the Government and the public should be warned against buying it," he said.
Njega said the land in question had been set aside to settle squatters and an inventory of the families to benefit had been prepared.
He said this had delayed allocation of the land to the squatters.
He said the same applied to the land being publicised for sale in Kakuzi. He alleged the land buying company was out to con Kenyans.
"Where do you expect to get land at Sh7,000 per three acres?" he posed.
He said cases of land fraud were common in Thika and that conmen had duped many people of millions of shillings because they failed to check with the Ministry of Lands over the validity of land on sale.
