5 things that Clarifying shampoo can do to your hair

Hair

All shampoos promise us the best for our hair. For those of us who buy our own shampoos, we pick what best suits our hair type. But there is also the clarifying shampoo, which can be useful for certain hair problems.

If you have hair colour, highlights, use the weekly hair masks, or apply styling products on your hair, then you need a bottle of clarifying shampoo in your shower.

So what really is clarifying shampoo? These shampoos are also known as "detox, deep cleansing or purifying." They are designed remove stubborn build-up. So when exactly do these shampoos come in handy?

Build-up: Your hair and scalp can get dirty and greasy often as a result of factors including pollution and hair products like gels, mousse and sprays among other products. Women oil their hair frequently, thus the hair gets greasy and difficult to wash off with a normal shampoo.

Some people have scalps that naturally produce excess oil making the hair greasy. Hard water will also leave your hair and dull. A normal shampoo will help remove all these but sometimes it is not enough as the shampoo is too mild. Shampoos and conditioners also leave some residue after you wash your hair.

A clarifying shampoo will make your scalp and hair very clean by getting rid of excess build-up. Women with greasy hair or hair weighed down with product build-up should use a clarifying shampoo once or twice a month.

The frequency should be determined by how greasy the hair feels. If your hair is coloured, clarify less often as the hair shaft is more sensitive. If you use many hair products, you should clarify at least once a week or once every two to four weeks at worst.

Colour preparation: Always use a clarifying shampoo before colouring your hair. This way, the colour deposits well on the hair without any build-up and stays fresher. Shampoo the hair one or two days before you apply colour. It is also good to note that clarifying shampoo fades colour so once you dye the hair, clarify when you are about to go for another colour touch up.

Volume booster for fine hair: If you have fine hair, there are times, especially on special occasions, that you will need big hair — and clarifying shampoo will be of great help here. It helps boost the volume of the hair.

Locking in moisture: Clarifying shampoos moisturise the hair as they make your hair more susceptible to conditioners. With a clarifying shampoo, your clean hair will be moisturised even better. For those with dry hair, always incorporate a clarifying shampoo into your beauty routine.

Cleanses hair after swimming: With the hot weather we are experiencing now, a clarifying shampoo will be your best friend after a dip in the pool. When you swim either in the ocean or a swimming pool, your hair is exposed to chemicals that can affect it. Salt and chlorine alters the way your hair looks. Always clarify your hair after swimming.

Thus to get the most out of your hair, consider incorporating a clarifying shampoo into your routine as it t will make your hair healthier and easier to style.
