Five ways to simplify your wardrobe

Fashion Tips

One of the New Year resolutions I had for 2020 was to have a simplified wardrobe. So far, I can tell you that things have been working out great even though it definitely hasn’t been easy.

Ladies are known to pile up on shoes, jewelry and clothes because honestly, we can never truly have enough.

The downside of having this perspective is ending up with a cluttered closet full of things you don’t need. Also, it’s not an ideal situation to realize you could have saved a lot of money if you just resisted the urge to buy certain things.

It is a challenge to simplify your wardrobe but it’s definitely worth it. Trust me. Here’s how to do it.

Let go of what you don’t need

This is a good time to donate items to charity so it can help someone who actually needs some clothes. There’s really no benefit of keeping things you have barely touched in the past year and if you haven’t worn them all this time, chances are, you won’t. By the time you decide to give it a chance, you will realize you’re bored and you no longer have motivation to wear it.

It’s time to practice the art of letting go and in doing so, you can give room for what you need.

Be a smart shopper

There will always be a deal or a sale somewhere at one point in time. If you miss one, you can easily compensate later on. Another thing you should start avoiding is impulsive shopping. This is how you end up with items that look exactly the same, which is a waste of cash. These two shopping tips are hard to adopt but with time, you can become a pro shopper. Whenever you’re out shopping, think twice before purchasing any item.

Don’t be too eager for trends

By now you should know that trends come and go. If you’re quick to adopt every fad, you’ll put pressure on yourself to add new items so you can keep up with the seasons. These are the days of fast fashion so what’s in today, will be out tomorrow. Try and tone it down for a minute so that you can have a simplified wardrobe. Remember that fashion isn’t the same as true style.

Organize your closet more often

This is one of the foundations of a minimalistic approach. You should always make sure you can see all the items you have, to give you perspective. This makes it easier to select your outfit for the day and you can also notice the things you don’t wear anymore. Life has enough stress of its own and you don’t need to add more to that pressure by having a cluttered wardrobe.

Start with essentials

This is basically the only way you can give your closet a fresh start. Once you have your essentials like the basic neutral items, you’re set to go. Anything else you add to your wardrobe will be your personal touch of style, which you can easily pair with the basic items you already have. You can always personalize your wardrobe when the essentials are intact.

If you didn't have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
