Naomi Campbell knew she'd become a mother no matter what with science on her side

Naomi has welcomed a baby girl

Naomi Campbell once said that the advances in science meant she'd be able to have a baby at whatever point in her life she felt ready.

The supermodel, 50, left her fans stunned on Tuesday when she announced the surprise arrival of her baby daughter.

Sharing a beautiful picture of the little girl's feet cupped in her hand, Naomi penned: "A beautiful little blessing has chosen me to be her mother, So honoured to have this gentle soul in my life there are no words to describe the lifelong bond that I now share with you my angel. There is no greater love."

Naomi had not shared the news that her little bundle of joy was on the way, and waited until after the birth to share the revelation that she'd become a mum.

The star is incredibly private and it's not known if she is currently in a relationship or who the father is.

But she once made it clear that when she was ready for a baby, she knew she'd be able to have one, one way or another.

Speaking to ES Magazine in 2017, she said: "I think about having children all the time. But now with the way science is I think I can do it when I want."

She said at the time that she didn't want to be a single parent, explaining: "I do want a father figure. I think it's important. It's the way I feel today, sitting here talking to you."

And she didn't rule out adoption at the time, telling Metro: "I'll see what the universe brings me. For now, what the universe has delivered is very much in the spirit of a chosen family."

In 2018, she spoke to Vogue about how much she'd love to have a family one day.

She said: "I'd love to have kids. I don't discount anything in life. I love kids and always will.

"When I'm around children, I become a child myself. That's the little girl I don't ever want to lose."

As Naomi shared her news today, her fans and famous friends rushed to offer their congratulations - and express their shock.

Zoe Saldana wrote: "oh my goodness congrats lady! What a blessing!!!"

While Sophie Turner left a love heart in the comments.

Rita Ora posted: "No one deserves this more"

And Donatella Versace told her: "Naomi, today I go from being sista to auntie!! I am so so so happy for you and I can’t WAIT to meet her!! Lots and lots of love, Donatella and Allegra"
