From setting up blind dates with their friends' kids to getting overprotective when you finally bring someone home to meet them.
They can also be pretty brutal with their opinions as one man recently discovered.
A radio producer has shared the hilarious, but harsh message, his mum sent him asking whether he was still single because of his personality, or his looks.
Adem Waterman shared the screenshot of his text conversation on Twitter, where it has since gone viral, as thousands of singletons can relate.
In the messages, his mum says she's writing her Christmas cards and asks if she just needs to put Adem's name in his card, or if there was a special someone to add too.
Adem is quick to tell his mum that he doesn't have a boyfriend, so the card will just be for him.
She shoots back: "Okay will do. Do you think it's your personality or looks?"
Adem replies: "Jesus Christ mum. It's Christmas!"
His mum doesn't feel too bad about the question though, and simply adds: "Well your brothers and sisters have partners."

Many also commented to share the rude comments their own parents and grandparents had made about their personal lives.
One person said: "When I phoned my gran to tell her I'd given birth to a baby girl, and I was naming her Violet, my gran said, 'Oh, I won't write that name on the card in case you change your mind.' And she didn't. The card said Baby."
Another commented: "I phoned my Nanna once after yet another job rejection. She said 'Do you think it's because you're past your best?' I was 39."
A third replied: "I was made redundant last Christmas. My parents both said to me that I was unlikely to find another job since I was 'no spring chicken' and that I should just sell my house and move in with them! Got new (and better) job at start of lockdown in April. Phew!"
Someone else added: "Oh I hear that! On Christmas Day, the day after a breakup 'so your sister better have kids as parents not getting grandkids from you now are they?' Followed by 'do you dislike children?' and 'all your cousins have partners and you're oldest' Merry Christmas to you too Gran!"
