Light Academy Nairobi, which is part of the Light Group of schools maintained its good performance streak to post a mean score of 9.39 in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations (KCSE).
Out of the 136 students who sat for KCSE, 131 students qualified to join the university. School Principal Emra Sanin said the mean score of 136 students was however a drop from last year's 9.61. In 2020 it had 10.1.
Thirteen students scored A, 34 (A-), 23(B+), B(25), B-(12) and C+(23) with five scoring Cs and one C-. Light Academy Mombasa, a sister school had a mean score of 9.89, with 13 scoring As and 34 getting A- where 130 out of 136 qualified to join the university.
Of the top performing students in the Light Academy Nairobi school, three including, Charles Chiteri Ngesa, Tyrese Wanambisi and Joshua Otachi scored As of 83 points while George Mark Okumu and Rayan Kamau both scored As of 82 points.
Rowan Gumba and Hamza Abdirizack Ali attained As of 81 points. In 2018, it had two students in the top 10 with one taking third and another 20th position, while in 2021 exams it had one student at position nine in the top 10.
Last year, two students from the school were among the top 10 taking position five and nine respectively.
The school was recognised last year, in October during World International Teachers Day by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Ministry of Education and Unesco in the private schools' category for its good performance.
Mr Sanin attributed the good performance to hard work.
''Every day, when the students woke up, they had a target and teamwork between teachers and students. Our teachers are also dedicated to their work and every day, they come early and do extra work in the morning and evenings,'' he said.
He said they are targeting a mean score of 10. One of the scholarship students, Rowan Gumba got an A of 81 points.
He scored 426 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Alfred Senya, one of the teachers in the school said the computer was the best-performed subject.
''We got 11.9 points in Computer and it's due to good infrastructure,'' said Senya, a physics teacher.
