Tips for a healthy pregnancy

Pregnancy

While parents are normally eager to carry their baby in their arms, pregnancy is not always an easy time for the mother especially because of the many challenges that come with it.

As a mother to be you are basically responsible for your baby’s growth and have to be careful what you consume during this period. This is why you are advised not to drink alcohol, smoke or use any form of drugs or get exposed to harsh chemicals as all these might affect your child’s growth both physically and mentally.

Here are some tips to consider for a healthy pregnancy.

1.Consume a healthy diet

It’s important to note that your child acquires nutrients from you as the mother. With this in mind, you need to ensure that you maintain a balanced diet and stay hydrated not only for the baby but also for your sake. The baby needs all the nutrients they can get to help with their mental and physical development.

2.Exercise regularly

First off, if you are in the late stages of pregnancy, avoid participating in very vigorous exercises because they can affect your pregnancy. However, you can always consider lighter exercises like going for walks, doing stretches, yoga, Zumba and other easy exercises to ensure you remain healthy during this period.

3.Write a pregnancy journal

A pregnancy journal is very important for your mental health and can include a birth plan where you note down the supplements you have been taking to the clothes you need when going to give birth to your bundle of joy.

A pregnancy journal is also a good way to keep track of your exercise routine, diet and health in general. It also acts as a good reminder of keeping your doctor’s appointments and your doctor’s notes for reference.

4.Educate yourself

You need to learn as much as possible about pregnancy. Always consult your doctor on any concerns you might have and ask all the questions you need to ask.

Also, find out what you expect to experience during pregnancy and what you need to watch out for as bad signs during this period. This will help you have a smooth journey as you prepare for the birth of your child without stress or strain.

5.Look into the products you use

Some products contain harsh chemicals that might end up affecting both you and the baby. Avoid using harsh chemicals to clean or ask for help with your chores if you have to use those chemicals. But in the mean time you can switch to more gentle products for the sake of the baby. You can talk to your doctor to help you understand which chemicals are harsh and which ones you can consider instead.

6.Keep watch of your weight

During pregnancy you are expected to gain a couple of pounds. Normally 10kgs is the normal range. Make sure to exercise to keep you from gaining excessive weight which might affect your movement as well as the development of the baby.

You also don’t want to gain too much weight that will strain you during this period and which will also, honestly, be so hard to shed off after giving birth.
