How to ALWAYS pick the cleanest public toilet cubicle

Living

Not all public toilets are created equal.

Some can be a surprising oasis of cleanliness and discretion.

Others are like seventh circle of hell.

To add insult to injury, some public toilets will charge you for the dubious pleasure of using them.

There's also a certain amount of strategising AND guesswork required when trying to decide which cubicle is least like that toilet off Trainspotting .

Happily, a doctor has now worked out which cubicle is your safest bet - but it depends on whether you're male or female.

Most public loos are NOT like this

He explained most toilet users, wanting "a little more privacy" have a habit of skipping the first cubicle and going for one further away from the door.

This might not be working in their favour though.

"But," he added. "because the first stall is used least often, it contains the lowest bacteria levels.

"Instead of skipping the first stall, choose it to help avoid possible infections."

This suggested the 'last stall' approach is actually favoured by women more than men, who are more likely to use the first stall in a public toilet.

This means that if you're a man, you should choose the cubicle furthest away from the door as it is likely to be used the least frequently and therefore carry the fewest germs.

If you're a woman, go for the one of the first ones (unless there's a massive queue).
