How to 'bake' your face

Skin Care

“Baking” your make-up is the newest make-up trend for 2016, and it doesn’t require any cooking utensils. The term “baking” refers to letting translucent powder sit on your face for at least five-30 minutes and then dusting it off when your make-up is “cooked” or set. The heat from your skin allows the concealer, foundation, and powder to blend in, leaving your face looking smooth and flawless.

Even though it is a new trend for many people, it has been popular in with the drag queen community.

To achieve a picture perfect finish, you need a liquid or cream concealer, loose powder, a sponge, and a large make-up brush.

1. Hydrate your eyes

Your eyes are the windows to your age. Take care of them by keeping them well hydrated, sleeping enough, and eating all your vitamins. Before you apply your make-up, use an eye cream or your usual face moisturiser around the eye area. The moisture helps to reduce the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines.

2. Make-up

Apply your primer and foundation. For a flawless application, use a foundation brush or a beauty blender sponge. Be generous in your application. Then apply eye primer and eye shadow, eyeliner and mascara as you usually would.

3. Highlight

For this step you may use a concealer or a highlighter. Apply a thick layer of product in a downward triangle shape under your eyes. Apply a little of the product on the bridge of your nose, on the middle of your chin, under your cheekbones, and on your forehead; in the same way that you would when contouring your face.

4. Bake

Dip a slightly damp sponge in any loose powder or translucent powder and gently pat it on the areas that have concealer. Apply plenty of powder, smooth it out and let it set for at least five minutes. At this point, your face may appear ghostly as the white powder stands out. Use a large soft brush to lightly dust off the excess powder. As your make-up continues to set, it will look more natural and flawless.

Within 30 minutes the natural oils from your skin will reduce the powdery appearance.
