make up pigment

Pigments are loose powder that is used in make-up. They come in various colours and have many uses. They can be used as eye shadow, or mixed with nail polish to change the colour. It can also be used for highlighting or for body paint. Although most pigments are shimmery, there are some matte shades as well.

Pigments are versatile and fun to use. Here is how to go about it.

Lips: Pigments can be mixed with any lip-gloss or lipstick to make your own custom lip colour. Take a small amount of clear lip-gloss and put it on a flat surface. Dip your brush into the pigment and mix with the gloss until you have a paste then apply to your lips with a lip brush. You can also use pigments with lipsticks by cutting a small section of the lipstick and doing the same thing. This will tone down a bright colour, change the undertone or add shimmer. You can also mix and match pigments to get the perfect shade.

Eyes: Use a light to medium shade and gently pat on the lower lid. You can use a flat stiff brush or your fingers. This is great when you are short on time and need something that looks good quickly. Use a fluffy dome brush to feather out any harsh lines and get rid of any excess powder. You can use pigments on the inner corner of the eyes to open them and make them appear larger or under the brow as a highlight.

Hair: Add the perfect sparkle or shine to your hair with pigments. Simply mix a small amount with your daily maintenance hair product, as long as it’s not too thick. You need a thinner consistency to make sure the pigment mixes well. By adding just a small amount you get a shiny effect without it being glittery.

Cheeks: Use a small amount of pigment powder on the top of your cheekbones and for adding dimension to your look. Ensure you use one that compliments your skin tone. Dip your brush into the pigment and place in the lid and press the brush into the pigment. Tap off the excess and gently sweep along the top of the cheekbone.

Body paint/glitter: To create your own body paint, mix your colour of choice with your body lotion or oil. Mix and match shades to create the desired effect. Add a little gold for a shimmer effect. The options are limitless.

Nail polish: Sprinkle some pigment on a wet nail to add sparkle and dimension to your nails or for a gradient effect. You can also mix it with a clear polish for a custom shade.
