Waxing versus shaving

Shaving vs waxing1. Waxing lasts longer

When you wax it removes the entire hair from the root, resulting in hair-free skin for weeks. Shaving only leaves you hair free for a few days at most, because it only cuts the hair down; it does not actually remove it. Your skin will remain smooth and hair free much longer.

2. The hair grows back finer

Waxing results in finer hair growth, while shaving results in thicker hair growth.

Shaving is like trimming your split ends, therefore, it causes hair to grow and become thicker. Because waxing removes the entire hair from the follicle, an entirely new hair is forced to grow back. It will be much thinner and take longer to grow back.

3. Less irritation

Shaving can cause razor bumps, rashes and itching.  The skin especially on your underarms may become dark and patchy. If done correctly, waxing will leave your skin smooth without irritation. If you have sensitive skin, waxing may leave your skin sore, but this should not last long. To soothe the skin, apply a cooling lotion after waxing.

4. No scars

Occasionally, shaving may result in nicks and cuts. Waxing can be done quickly without the worry of cutting yourself and leaving scars. While removing hair, wax also exfoliates the skin. Shaving does not benefit your skin in any way, and actually takes a thin layer of skin off every time you shave.

Whichever method you choose, make sure it does not irritate your skin too much. When waxing, ensure that the salon uses disposable waxing strips rather than a re-useable cloth. This is for hygiene purposes.
